Turtle Dove art projects
Enter 'Doodle a Dove' to support our work and have a chance to win a fantastic prize!
Since our project started in 2016 we have hosted two art projects.
In the autumn of 2019, we held the first ever North Yorkshire art event dedicated to Turtle Doves. We raised £5,000 to help our project. Wonderful artists such as Darren Woodhead, Jonathon Pomroy, Jo Ruth and Alan Hunt donated work to be auctioned. Alongside these artists we ran a celebrity Doodle a Dove auction with submissions from a whole host of celebrities such as Miriam Margolyes, Chris Packham, Iolo Williams and Claudia Winkleman.
In early winter 2023 we launched our Doodle a Dove public competition in partnership with Leica Optics. We had almost 100 entries which was a fantastic response. Our big Doodle a Dove event was held at Castle Howard on the 13 January 2024. We were very pleased to welcome Springwatch presenter Iolo Williams who gave a short talk and presented the winners with their prizes. The winning doodle received a very smart pair of Leica binoculars. Thanks to Leica and Castle Howard we were able to host many of our long serving volunteers at the event and thank them for all their hard work and commitment to the conservation of Turtle Doves
Turtle Doves are a very attractive subject for artists. On the image panel opposite you will see a beautiful drawing created by Ruth Weaver who donated to our project.
